The capstone of this block, written to be taken last. Its position is stated in the first lesson and defended for the rest of the course: coding assistants move the constraint on how much software an organisation can safely ship rather than removing it, authorship stops being the slowest step, and a software development lifecycle whose controls were arranged around a bottleneck at authorship now has them in the wrong place. Three modules follow one invented change, a refund endpoint in a payments service, through nine stages: intent and specification, generation, the local loop, review, testing, build and gate, deploy, runtime and incident. At each stage the same two questions are asked and answered, what changed when the author became a machine and what control answers it, and the change accumulates three review findings, a gate failure that enforces a property everybody assumed was already true, and an incident eleven weeks later whose cause was a configuration value that never passed through any stage at all. The final module is the organisational half: review capacity as the binding constraint with the arithmetic worked on invented numbers, accountability for a change nobody typed, five measures of the joins between stages rather than of the stages themselves, and the eight policies a team genuinely needs. The focused courses in this block are referenced by name where they go deeper rather than summarised, and the course closes with the position in the form needed to defend it in front of an executive who has already announced a productivity improvement in public.
Nothing. Every course, exam, and certificate on the catalog is free — including retakes. All you need is a free Safeguard account.
None. The flagship course, Safeguard Certified Practitioner, is a beginner-level course — basic familiarity with how software is built helps, but every exam question is answerable from the lessons themselves.
You can retake it after a 24-hour cooldown, as many times as you need. Retakes are free, and each attempt draws a fresh random set of questions.
The Safeguard Certified Practitioner credential is valid for 24 months from issue. The expiry date is printed on the certificate and shown live on its public verification page. Renewing means passing the current exam again.
